Scholarship Resources

“If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one (nothing) can stop you.”

                                                                                                           – Zig Ziglar

Lack of funding opportunities should not be a hindrance to students realizing their dreams. To this end, EYMP provides links below to websites with information on how to get scholarships and other resources and thus, enables students to advance their studies and eventually successfully complete their studies at the University level.

The do’s and don’ts

1.      First check your eligibility for each opportunity. Each scholarship or funding opportunity advertised has clear guidelines including an eligibility list for applicants.

2.      Choose wisely from the pool of opportunities available. It is better to maximize your time commitment on applications for which you meet at least 90% of the requirements.

However, students can also give a shot at opportunities that do not have stringent requirements such as language tests like TOEFL or IELTS. Instances where some documents are optional/recommended and can be submitted at a later stage as indicated by the sponsoring organization provide more flexibility for applicants.

3.      Follow all instructions given. This is with respect to application deadlines, mode of application (e.g., online portal, via email, etc.), formats for sending in supporting documentation including references (e.g., where referees are to submit forms directly to the institution vs. the applicant uploading the reference letters), etc.

4.      Recheck and revise your application documents accordingly for each opportunity e.g., motivation letters. Consider revising your documents multiple times to strengthen your argument and to correct spelling and grammar mistakes.

Do not copy and paste details from one application to the next. This is an indication of the applicant’s poor preparation and lowers his/her chances of being considered for opportunities especially if errors are consistently found in the application.

5.      Contact your referees and any other third parties that are required to provide recommendations for your application in advance before adding their contact details onto your application. This includes teachers, university professors and previous employers. Consider that your referees might need some time to write a strong letter of recommendation, if necessary.

6.      Submission of application: submit your application and the supporting documentations well in advance of the due date to avoid technical errors as the network traffic on websites is highest in the days leading to the application deadline. Also, double check that your application is complete with all necessary attachments before submitting.

7.      Always check the respective sponsoring institution/organization website for regular updates on the funding opportunity applied for e.g., if there was an indication that shortlisted candidates and invitation for interviews would be posted on their website you will need to keep track of the website updates so as not to miss the call for an interview.

On the other hand, if communication is strictly via email, check all your mailboxes including spam and junk emails for any communication that may be sent to you.

8.      Once your application is submitted, refrain from sending unnecessary queries to the institution, especially questions relating to the status of your application.
